Hotel accommodation note: Depending on your travel date, your overnight stay will be in Dambulla, Sigiriya, or Habarana.

Day 3 Dambulla/Sigiriya/Habarana Today, you will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sigiriya. You will be amazed by the famous Lion Rock, which rises about 200 meters out of the jungle landscape and is considered the 8th wonder of the world. Surrounding the rock are restored pleasure gardens, as well as the ruins of moats and a monastery complex. A particular highlight is the frescos of the famous “Cloud Maidens.”
Next, enjoy a picturesque boat ride on the reservoir—a relaxing journey surrounded by nature and wildlife. The reservoir serves as a habitat for various bird species. Experience traditional village life and take a walk through the surrounding rice paddies and vegetable fields.
Try your hand at preparing some delicious Sri Lankan delicacies, which will then be served to you as a flavorful, fresh lunch. Afterward, return to the hotel.
Accommodations: Occidental Paradise Dambulla or Tropical Life Resort & Spa
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4 Dambulla/Sigiriya/Habarana – Kandy You will visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla, which consists of 5 large caves and picturesque facades. As the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex, it is particularly impressive for its ancient statues and paintings depicting the life of Buddha.
Sri Lanka is world-famous for its spices. For this reason, your journey takes you to the largest spice garden on the island. Here, you will gain insight into the island’s diverse variety of spices. Afterward, you will continue your journey to Kandy, where you will spend the night.
Accommodations: Hotel Topaz (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 5 Kandy After breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy. According to tradition, this temple houses the left canine tooth of the Buddha Siddhartha Gautama from the 4th century. This relic makes Kandy one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Buddhism (out of respect, please remember to wear clothing that covers your knees and shoulders).
During the subsequent sightseeing tour of Kandy, you will immerse yourself in its ancient charm as well as the typical Sri Lankan lifestyle with its traditions and handicrafts. It is not without reason that it ranks among the most visited cities on the island.
Optional add-on: Visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens.
Afterward, you will also visit a woodcarving and gemstone center, where you will gain insight into the craftsmanship and art of the locals. In the evening, you will experience a traditional dance show that will enchant you. Dinner will be served at your hotel.
Accommodations: Hotel Topaz (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 6 Kandy – Nuwara Eliya – Bandarawela/Beragala Tea cultivation is another quintessential feature of Sri Lanka—you will see tea fields stretching as far as the eye can see. You will visit a tea plantation and factory where some of the world’s finest tea is produced. Here, you will learn everything there is to know about the production of flavorful Ceylon tea, naturally including a tasting session.
Please note that the train journey originally scheduled from Nanu Oya to Haputale is currently omitted due to a lack of reliability in train schedules. Instead, this itinerary item will be replaced with an included lunch. Depending on the local situation, a short train ride on certain sections may optionally be possible; this is entirely dependent on the actual availability of public trains.
Afterward, there will be time for individual activities before the day comes to a relaxing close.
Note: Should a train journey unexpectedly become possible on-site, the included lunch will be omitted, as it is not logistically possible to do both.
Accommodations: Bandarawela Hotel (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 7 Bandarawela/Beragala – Yala You will start the day with a tuk-tuk ride to Lipton’s Seat. This unique spot is named after Sir Thomas Lipton himself, who used to sit here and enjoy the stunning view over his tea plantations. Nestled right in the heart of these plantations, the viewpoint offers a magnificent view over the mountains and, on a clear day, all the way to the ocean. Afterward, you will continue your journey south toward Yala National Park.
Optional add-on: Jeep Safari in Yala National Park.
Experience the home of elephants, water buffaloes, crocodiles, monkeys, and countless bird species. With a little luck, you might even spot one of the park’s elusive leopards. Afterward, you will be driven to your hotel.
Accommodations: Grand Tamarind Lake or Elephant Reach Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 8 Yala – Udawalawe – Galle – Wadduwa This morning, you will experience something truly special: a visit to an elephant transit home/orphanage, where injured or abandoned calves are taken in and raised. With a little luck, you will have the unique opportunity to witness the feeding of the elephants.
Afterward, your journey continues to Galle for a visit to the Galle Fort. Located on the Bay of Galle, the fort was originally built by the Portuguese in 1588 and was extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century, starting from 1649. Following this tour, you will head to your beach hotel in Wadduwa.
