Start your cycling adventure in spectacular Innsbruck and follow the historic route south from the Austrian Alps into Italy. From the Brenner Pass, the journey continues along the scenic cycle paths of the Isarco and Adige rivers, passing traditional villages, lush meadows, vineyards and historic castles.
As the landscape gradually changes, the Alpine scenery gives way to a distinctly Mediterranean atmosphere. Olive groves, cypress trees and the shimmering waters of Lake Garda signal your arrival in northern Italy’s warmer landscapes. A spectacular highlight is the panoramic view over Lake Garda from Passo San Giovanni, before continuing towards the southern shores of the lake.
The journey concludes in Verona, one of the Veneto region’s most fascinating cities of art. With its Roman heritage, medieval architecture, Shakespearean associations and world-famous opera tradition, Verona provides a memorable finale to this self-guided cycling holiday.
Your cycling adventure through the Alps begins in Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol and one of Austria’s most spectacular mountain cities. Arrive independently and take some time to explore the historic centre, surrounded by the impressive peaks of the Nordkette. Overnight in Innsbruck.

A private transfer takes you from Innsbruck to the Brenner Pass, where your cycling tour begins. From here, you follow the cycle route southwards through the green Isarco Valley into South Tyrol.
The route leads through peaceful villages, lush meadows and impressive Alpine scenery before reaching Fortezza. Here you can admire the historic fortress that once played an important role in protecting the Brenner route.
Continue towards the magnificent Abbey of Novacella, one of the most important historic monasteries in South Tyrol. Surrounded by vineyards and mountains, the abbey is a wonderful place to pause before continuing to Bressanone, one of the oldest towns in the region.

Today you continue south along the well-developed cycle path through the Isarco Valley. The route is relatively short, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the landscape and discover some of South Tyrol’s cultural highlights.
A highlight along the way is Sabiona, the historic medieval monastery dramatically positioned on a rocky hill above the valley. Its spectacular location makes it one of the most distinctive landmarks of the region.
Your destination is Bolzano, the lively capital of South Tyrol, where Alpine and Mediterranean influences meet. The historic old town, arcades, cafés and surrounding vineyards make Bolzano an ideal overnight stop.

Today’s route follows the River Adige through one of northern Italy’s most attractive wine-growing regions. Vineyards and orchards accompany you along the cycle path as the Alpine landscape gradually gives way to a more Mediterranean atmosphere.
You have a choice between two routes. For a more challenging ride, take the hilly variant towards beautiful Lake Kaltern. Alternatively, follow the largely flat cycle path along the Adige River.
Along the way you pass through Salorno, situated at the traditional linguistic boundary between the German-speaking and Italian-speaking worlds. If you prefer a shorter cycling day, several railway stations provide opportunities to shorten the route by train.
Continue to Trento, a historic city surrounded by mountains and vineyards.

The River Adige guides you south towards Rovereto, a city renowned for its art and cultural heritage. From here, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic as you climb towards Passo San Giovanni.
Your reward is a spectacular panorama over Lake Garda, with the picturesque resort of Torbole visible below. Continue to Riva del Garda, one of the lake’s most attractive northern towns.
Here you board a ferry and cross Lake Garda towards its southern shore. The journey offers a wonderful opportunity to admire the surrounding mountains and villages from the water before continuing to Peschiera del Garda.

Leave Lake Garda behind and cycle through the gently rolling countryside surrounding the southern end of the lake. Vineyards, fields and small villages accompany you as you make your way towards the River Adige.
Following the river, the route eventually brings you to Verona, one of northern Italy’s most celebrated cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There is plenty to discover in Verona. Admire the magnificent Roman Arena, explore the Basilica of San Zeno and visit Juliet’s House, associated with Shakespeare’s legendary love story. The atmospheric historic centre, elegant squares and lively cafés make Verona a perfect finale to your cycling journey.

After a private transfer from Innsbruck to the Brenner Pass, the cycling tour begins along the Brenner–Vipiteno route and the new Eisack Valley/Wipptal cycle path. The first section is predominantly downhill. Later, there are several short climbs before reaching Bressanone.
Transfer: Approx. 75 minutes by private transfer from Innsbruck to the Brenner Pass.
45 km | +290 m / -585 m
An easy and rewarding cycling stage through the central Eisack Valley. The route follows the river on dedicated cycle paths and features a gentle, almost continuous descent towards Bolzano.
65–70 km | Flat route: +295 m / -365 m | Hilly route: +410 m / -475 m
Most of the route follows the Adige River on an almost completely flat cycle path. Alternatively, you can choose the more challenging variant through the vineyards and countryside around Lake Kaltern.
50 km | +305 m / -430 m
The route is relatively easy, with only a few short uphill sections before reaching Riva del Garda. Take particular care on the descent after Passo San Giovanni. From Riva del Garda, continue your journey by ferry across Lake Garda to Peschiera del Garda.
Ferry: Approx. 4–5 hours.
Not all ferries have a bar or restaurant on board, so we recommend taking sufficient food and drinks with you for the crossing.

The final cycling stage takes you from Lake Garda towards Verona. For several kilometres, the route follows an unpaved road, before continuing towards the city. As you approach Verona, traffic increases, so particular attention is required on the final section.
