Self-Guided Cycling Tour from Innsbruck to Lake Garda

From the Alps to the Veneto: A Scenic Cycling Journey

Start your cycling adventure in spectacular Innsbruck and follow the historic route south from the Austrian Alps into Italy. From the Brenner Pass, the journey continues along the scenic cycle paths of the Isarco and Adige rivers, passing traditional villages, lush meadows, vineyards and historic castles.

As the landscape gradually changes, the Alpine scenery gives way to a distinctly Mediterranean atmosphere. Olive groves, cypress trees and the shimmering waters of Lake Garda signal your arrival in northern Italy’s warmer landscapes. A spectacular highlight is the panoramic view over Lake Garda from Passo San Giovanni, before continuing towards the southern shores of the lake.

The journey concludes in Verona, one of the Veneto region’s most fascinating cities of art. With its Roman heritage, medieval architecture, Shakespearean associations and world-famous opera tradition, Verona provides a memorable finale to this self-guided cycling holiday.

Route Profile

Day 2: Brenner Pass – Bressanone

55 km | +365 m / -1,175 m

After a private transfer from Innsbruck to the Brenner Pass, the cycling tour begins along the Brenner–Vipiteno route and the new Eisack Valley/Wipptal cycle path. The first section is predominantly downhill. Later, there are several short climbs before reaching Bressanone.

Transfer: Approx. 75 minutes by private transfer from Innsbruck to the Brenner Pass.

Day 3: Bressanone – Bolzano

45 km | +290 m / -585 m

An easy and rewarding cycling stage through the central Eisack Valley. The route follows the river on dedicated cycle paths and features a gentle, almost continuous descent towards Bolzano.

Day 4: Bolzano – Trento

65–70 km | Flat route: +295 m / -365 m | Hilly route: +410 m / -475 m

Most of the route follows the Adige River on an almost completely flat cycle path. Alternatively, you can choose the more challenging variant through the vineyards and countryside around Lake Kaltern.

Day 5: Trento – Peschiera del Garda

50 km | +305 m / -430 m

The route is relatively easy, with only a few short uphill sections before reaching Riva del Garda. Take particular care on the descent after Passo San Giovanni. From Riva del Garda, continue your journey by ferry across Lake Garda to Peschiera del Garda.

Ferry: Approx. 4–5 hours.

Not all ferries have a bar or restaurant on board, so we recommend taking sufficient food and drinks with you for the crossing.

Day 6: Peschiera del Garda – Verona

35 km | +255 m / -260 m

The final cycling stage takes you from Lake Garda towards Verona. For several kilometres, the route follows an unpaved road, before continuing towards the city. As you approach Verona, traffic increases, so particular attention is required on the final section.
