Day 1: Departure from Frankfurt

Your adventure begins at Frankfurt Airport. You board your scheduled flight (connecting flight) bound for Lima, spending the night in the air.

Day 2: Arrival in Lima

You land in the Peruvian capital in the morning. After clearing customs, you are met at the airport by a representative and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to relax or start exploring the vibrant Miraflores district on your own.

Day 3: Lima Colonial City Tour – Flight to Arequipa

Your local tour guide picks you up for a comprehensive exploration of Lima’s historic center. You visit the colonial-era mansion Casa Aliaga, walk across the UNESCO-listed Plaza Mayor, view the grand Cathedral, and tour the Larco Museum to see 5,000 years of pre-Columbian history. In the afternoon, you transfer back to the airport for your domestic flight to Arequipa.

Day 4: Exploring Arequipa, the “White City”

Today is dedicated to discovering Arequipa, known as the “White City” due to its buildings constructed from sillar, a white volcanic stone. You will tour the historic colonial quarters, the spectacular Santa Catalina Monastery, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Misti and Chachani volcanoes.

Day 5: Journey into the Colca Valley

Leaving Arequipa, your air-conditioned travel bus climbs into the spectacular Andes highlands. The route winds past high-altitude plains where wild vicuñas and alpacas roam. You pass through traditional mountain villages before descending into the dramatic Colca Valley to reach the town of Chivay.

Day 6: Condor Cross Viewpoint & Volcano Trek – Travel to Puno

Early this morning, you drive to the Cruz del Cóndor (Condor Cross) viewpoint, looking down into the massive Colca Canyon—one of the deepest canyons in the world—to watch Andean condors soaring on rising thermals. This active day includes a scenic crater hike around the Chucura Volcano landscape before heading across the high altiplano towards Lake Titicaca.

Day 7: Lake Titicaca & The Floating Uros Communities

A full day dedicated to the world’s highest navigable lake, Lake Titicaca. You take a boat ride to visit the traditional Uros community, meeting the inhabitants who live on unique, man-made floating islands constructed entirely out of local totora reeds.

Day 8: High-Altiplano Journey from Puno to Cusco

You depart Puno for a scenic drive across the majestic Andean Altiplano toward Cusco, the historic heart of the Inka Empire. Along the route, you cross the high mountain pass of La Raya, stopping to view ancient ruins and colonial churches before entering the valley of Cusco.

Day 9: Cusco – The Imperial “Navel of the World”

Today features a tour of historic Cusco, the ancient Inka capital. You explore the colonial historic center, built directly on top of massive Inka stone walls, including the Plaza de Armas, the Sun Temple (Qorikancha), and the imposing fortress ruins of Sacsayhuamán overlooking the city.

Day 10: Into the Sacred Valley of the Inkas

You travel into the fertile Urubamba Valley, widely known as the Sacred Valley of the Inkas. Today’s stops include traditional indigenous craft markets and the sprawling fortress terraces of Pisac or Ollantaytambo, showcasing ancient agricultural genius.

Day 11: Train through Urubamba Valley to Aguas Calientes

Day 12: The Marvel of Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco

The absolute highlight of your tour: a morning bus ride brings you up the switchback mountain to the legendary, mist-shrouded ruins of Machu Picchu. You enjoy a comprehensive guided tour through the terraces, temples, and palaces of the lost Inka citadel. In the afternoon, you take the train back to the Sacred Valley and transfer to Cusco.

Day 13: Free Day in Cusco or Optional Rainbow Mountain Excursion

Day 14: Domestic Flight from Cusco back to Lima

Day 15: Farewell Peru & Overnight Return Flight

Your final morning in Peru. In the afternoon or evening (depending on the schedule), you are transferred to Lima’s international airport for your overnight return flight back towards Germany.

Day 16: Arrival in Frankfurt

You touch down at Frankfurt Airport, marking the official end of your 16-day active Inka expedition. You can use the included 2nd class Rail&Fly ticket to complete your journey home via the ICE train network.

Optional: Rainbow Mountain Excursion – Day 13

All Information

Today, you will visit the impressive Vinicunca, Rainbow Mountain, which rises to around 5,200 metres above sea level. The excursion starts early in the morning and first takes you to Cusipata, where a hearty breakfast awaits you.

From there, you continue to Rainbow Mountain, where you can fully enjoy the breathtaking scenery. A stop at a viewpoint offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The return journey takes you via Phullawasipata, followed by lunch in Cusipata before returning to Cusco.

Please note: Participation in the optional excursion to Vinicunca on Day 13 requires good physical fitness. At an altitude of around 5,000 metres, this is a demanding excursion with increased requirements for fitness and endurance.
