Travel Description:
Embark on a unique journey filled with fun and cultural richness in Sri Lanka. As a jewel in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is brimming with ancient sights, fascinating culture, stunning wilderness, and idyllic beaches. From the ancient city of Anuradhapura and the well-preserved ruins of Polonnaruwa to the Temple of the Tooth and the impressive rock fortress of Sigiriya, Sri Lankan culture has thrived for over 2,000 years and remains vibrant today. Those seeking a unique travel experience will hike through lush tea plantations, sample fish dishes in fishing villages, and dip their toes in the calm, clear waters of Mirissa Beach.
Why We Love This Trip:
Is This Trip Right for You?
While temperatures remain relatively constant year-round due to the equatorial climate, Sri Lanka can be very hot in the summer months, with short, intense monsoons in the southwest. Ensure you use appropriate sun protection and stay hydrated.
On days 9 and 10, we will hike through Sri Lanka’s picturesque landscape and meet the local Tamil population. The terrain is mostly flat, but we will cover approximately 20km each day, and the ground may be slippery and muddy after rainfall. Moderate fitness levels are recommended.
If you have a fear of heights, you may choose not to climb Lion Rock at Sigiriya, as it involves ascending many steep, narrow steps and narrow pathways.
The drive from Haputale to Mirissa on day 11 is downhill, winding, and slow. Some travelers have experienced motion sickness on this stretch in the past.
